Intro
Vespa Six Day Racer Replica 1953 made using one of the very last Douglas frame to leave the Bristol based factory with all parts by Lino Brotto, Italian restoration master and fabricator . Builder and restorer for Piaggio factory museum.

The Vespa Six Day Racer or Sei Giorni was a special Piaggio works race bike for the endurance race tournaments held back in the 1940's and early 1950's by

all the big Italian two wheel manufacturers to prove that their bikes and scooters were tough and reliable they would race them round Italy over the rough road surfaces ( just after the war ) they competed with Lambretta, but also Ducati, MV Augusta,Laverda,Moto Guzzi,Bianchi and many more. .

These six day racers were not any ordinary factory specification Vespa but an improved modified , strengthened and tuned scooter to combat the semi off road conditions, reliability being the key and make it to the end of that days course.

These racers where made from 1946 until 1953 by Piaggio after which the endurance races died down. The Sei Giorni was great for development and later evolved into Piaggio's finest model the Gran Sport 150 release in 1955 , a best seller it left Lambretta it's closet rival years behind in performance and style .

The replica we chose to make is that of the very last version of the Sei Giorni with the 10" wheels and twin spare wheels.

The donor frame itself has a story in that it is one of the very last Vespa frames to leave the Vespa Douglas factory in Bristol , we were privileged to be contacted by the demolition team who discover a batch of 1950's Vespa chassis in a cellar of the old Douglas factory they were demolishing. having bought all 8 remaining frames we choose the better condition chassis of a 1953 Douglas Vespa and decided to make our Sei Giorni from that, so in the end the Douglas Vespa Factory did have a unofficial

Six Day Racer themselves.

We flew to Italy to meet Lino Brotto the famous fabricator and restorer of many of the most rarest vespa model for the Piaggio factory.

Lino provided us the many specialist parts needed to make a 6 day racer replica and also showed us the tricks to sculpturing the special bodywork to replicate the body of this special racer.

The London Scooter Bodyshop undertook the mammoth task of moulding and metal fabrication the Douglas frame into the specialist racer body shape adding special extra strength plates and leg shield shaping .

Specialist parts are the long range tank , map holder , spare wheel holders, shortend handlebars, side stand ,seamless mudguard ,strenghtened for swing arm, engine panel catches and holder , air intake and bashplates.

The Engine is a GS150 with extra curved kickstart, special flywheel and cylinder cowling. It currently runs on a GS carb but we have the special original Sei Gorni delorto carburator and and handle bar mount choke . just not fitted due to the wrong jetting .

The scooter starts and runs like new and is the ultimate copy of this iconic Vespa Factory racer of which there were only around 100 made if even that, sorry no exact figures.

Our pricing

We like to give our customers flexibility when buying a vintage scooter, as soon as we get bikes in we give them a full check over then put them up for sale in their current condition. This allows customers to buy them as they are if they wish (and perform any restoration or maintenance work themselves) or work with us to create their dream bike.  Below are our typical restoration service levels and work that you can expect to get.

sold as is

These bikes are in the original condition we got them in. The scooter might be an old barn find or a previously restored bike in great condition and ready to roll (or anything in between).

level 1 restoration

This focuses on a mechanical overhaul on the scooter and perhaps some essential cosmetic work. We will do what is required to get it  up and running reliably and to pass an MOT.  It will be a great runner and something to invest time in if you wish.

complete restoration

This is what we are famous for.  A full scooter restoration involves bare metal strip down, repair and respray, a total mechanical over haul of the engine, carb, gearbox and forks as well as all new trim. Like a brand new scooter and to your specification
