Introduction

The Vespa T5 Classic 125, released in 1999, is a standout model that represents the pinnacle of Vespa's T-series scooters. Known for its distinctive design and sporty performance, the T5 Classic 125 is cherished by Vespa enthusiasts for its blend of traditional Vespa styling with modern engineering. This scooter is particularly notable for its high-performance engine and aerodynamic design, making it a favourite among those who appreciate both the aesthetics and the ride quality of a Vespa.

Description

The 1999 Vespa T5 Classic 125 is a unique and eye-catching scooter, instantly recognizable by its angular design and aerodynamic enhancements. Departing from the more rounded shapes of earlier models, the T5 Classic features a sharper, more modern silhouette, with a squared-off front shield and a distinctive flat top on the headlamp housing. The steel monocoque frame remains true to Vespa’s heritage, offering durability and structural integrity while contributing to the scooter's sleek, sporty look.

Under the hood, the Vespa T5 Classic 125 is powered by a 123 cc two-stroke, single-cylinder engine, which is tuned for performance, delivering around 11 horsepower. This engine was one of the most powerful in its class at the time, offering quick acceleration and a top speed that made it a joy to ride both in urban environments and on open roads. The scooter comes equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, a rarity in Vespa’s line-up, which allows for precise control and a more engaging riding experience.

One of the T5 Classic’s defining features is its improved aerodynamics. The scooter’s bodywork includes subtle air scoops and a more streamlined shape, which not only enhances its visual appeal but also contributes to better performance at higher speeds. The larger 10-inch wheels and advanced suspension system, featuring hydraulic shock absorbers, ensure a smooth and stable ride, even on rougher surfaces.

The braking system includes drum brakes on both the front and rear wheels, providing reliable stopping power. The T5 Classic 125 also features a comfortable dual seat, ample storage space under the seat, and a convenient glove compartment. The scooter’s instrument panel is more advanced than its predecessors, offering a digital speedometer and additional gauges for fuel and oil levels, reflecting the model's more modern approach.

Visually, the Vespa T5 Classic 125 is adorned with chrome accents, including the mirrors, handlebars, and exhaust, which contrast beautifully with its bold colour options, typically including red, blue, and black. These design choices emphasize the scooter’s sporty and sophisticated character, making it stand out on the road.

In summary, the 1999 Vespa T5 Classic 125 is a remarkable blend of traditional Vespa charm and modern performance. Its unique design, powerful engine, and enhanced features make it a standout model, appealing to those who appreciate a scooter that delivers both in looks and in ride quality.

Our pricing

We like to give our customers flexibility when buying a vintage scooter, as soon as we get bikes in we give them a full check over then put them up for sale in their current condition. This allows customers to buy them as they are if they wish (and perform any restoration or maintenance work themselves) or work with us to create their dream bike.  Below are our typical restoration service levels and work that you can expect to get.

sold as is

These bikes are in the original condition we got them in. The scooter might be an old barn find or a previously restored bike in great condition and ready to roll (or anything in between).

level 1 restoration

This focuses on a mechanical overhaul on the scooter and perhaps some essential cosmetic work. We will do what is required to get it  up and running reliably and to pass an MOT.  It will be a great runner and something to invest time in if you wish.

complete restoration

This is what we are famous for.  A full scooter restoration involves bare metal strip down, repair and respray, a total mechanical over haul of the engine, carb, gearbox and forks as well as all new trim. Like a brand new scooter and to your specification
